Neurotransmission at synaptic junctions in the central nervous system is terminated by reuptake of the neurotransmitter into the synaptic ends 1 ; . This is achieved by neurotransmitter transporters. GABA1 is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. There are three GABA transporters, referred to as GAT1, GAT2, and GAT3, which all belong to the Na Cl -de * This work was supported by Austrian Science Foundation FWF ; Grants P15034 to M. Expect Caucasians, causes diarrhoea because of the unabsorbed lactose when milk is ingested. 4 ; Abnormal Transit Rate -- When the transit of intestinal contents through the bowels is shortened, or more rarely, prolonged. Rapid transit rate occurs in "irritable bowel syndrome" and diarrhoea following intestinal resection. Prolonged transit rate, e.g. in the "blind loop syndrome" or in scleroderma, causes bacterial overgrowth. This leads to the production of abnormal amount of unabsorbable deconjugated bile salts, the presence of which in the colon causes secretion of water and electrolytes. I will divide tho rest of the discussion into 2 major sections. The first section is on acute infectious diarrhoea. The second is on chronic diarrhoea.

T h e dden and, at the time, unexpected onset of an illness or medical condition that manifests itself by symptoms of sufficient severity, including severe pain, that the absence of immediate medical attention could reasonably be expected by the prudent layperson, who possesses an average knowledge of health and medicine, to result in: placing the member's physical or mental health in serious jeopardy; or serious impairment to bodily functions; or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part and rhogam.

The PPAR-RXR heterodimers bind to peroxisome proliferator response elements PPREs ; , consisting of a direct repeat of the consensus half-site motif AGGNCA ; spaced by a single nucleotide DR1 ; 1, 7, 11 ; . Upon ligand binding, PPARs undergo conformational changes that facilitate the rapid dissociation of corepressor molecules to enable the recruitment of coactivator molecules such as CBP p300, p160 SRC-1 family members, PBP also known as TRAP220 DRIP205 MED1 ; , PRIP also known as ASC2 RAP250 TRBP NRC ; and others to initiate transcriptional activity of specific target gene 12-19 ; . In this regard, the transcriptional activation of PPAR specific target genes may depend upon the availability of the ligand in a given cell tissue, abundance of receptor and its heterodimerization partner RXR, nature of PPREs and availability of transcription cofactors, among others 1, 19-22 ; . Like PPAR, constitutive androstane receptor CAR ; NR113 ; is also a xenobiotic sensing receptor that is capable of being modulated by structurally diverse chemicals such as 1, 4-bis-2[ 3, ; ]benzene TCPOBOP ; and phenobarbital, but is not known to be responsive to PPAR ligands 23-29 ; . CAR is sequestered in the cytoplasm of liver parenchymal cells in a complex with accessory proteins, including CCRP CAR cytoplasmic retention protein ; and Hsp90 heat shock protein 90 ; 3032 ; . When activated by an agonist that binds to the ligand binding domain of CAR, the receptor translocates to the nucleus where it heterodimerizes with RXR 23-26, 33 ; . In response to indirect activators such as phenobarbital, the cytoplasmic CAR complex recruits protein phosphatase 2A PP2A ; prior to translocation into the nucleus 32 ; . In either event, nuclear translocation of CAR is an essential step for CAR activation by xenobiotics and the induction of target genes 23, 34 ; . CAR-RXR heterodimers bind to the specific DNA responsive elements found in the target gene promoter resulting in the transcriptional enhancement of gene expression 26 ; . As with other activated nuclear receptors, CAR activation also results in the recruitment of coactivators, such as p160 SRC1 family members, ASC-2 PRIP and PBP 10, 3537 ; . We now present evidence to show that synthetic PPAR ligands peroxisome proliferators ; induce the nuclear translocation of CAR in liver cells in vivo, in addition to their well known property of activating PPAR 1, 2, 5.

Methyl-5-methoxy- and 4-benzoquinone azido-Q and [3H]azido-Q ; , 5-azido-2, 3-dimethoxy-6-decyl-1, 4-benzoquinone ; were synthesized by methods reported previously 23 ; . Enzyme Preparations and Assays-- E. coli complex I was prepared and assayed essentially as to previously reported 6 ; . Complex I, azido-Q treated or untreated, was mixed with asolectin at a ratio of 1: 20 weight ; , incubated at 4 C for 15 min before assaying for activity. The reaction mixture 1ml ; contained 50 mM Tris-Cl buffer, pH 7.5, 5 mM NaN3, 0.15 % dodecyl-maltoside, 100 M NADH, and 60 M Q1. The reaction was started by addition of an appropriate amount of azido-Q treated- or untreated- complex I. The oxidation of NADH was followed by measuring the absorption decrease at 340 nm, using a millimolar extinction coefficient of 340 nm 6.22 mM-1 cm 1. Identification of Endogenous Quinone in E. coli Complex I-- Quinones were extracted from purified E. coli complex I with hexane as previously reported 24 ; . The concentration of quinone was determined by the method of Redfearn 24 ; . A millimolar extinction coefficient of and rifabutin.

Following its launch at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, ROAP helped organise the first technical workshop of the "FreshCo" partnership at Songkhla in January. The partnership aims to find management solutions for problems that involve both river basins and the coastal zone. UNEP's Danish-based Collaborating Centre on Water and Environment is facilitating UN agencies, intergovernmental institutions, governments, NGOs, and international water institutes in the project, which will present its findings at next month's World Water Forum. The workshop was jointly convened by the Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment allowing delegates to examine the integrated management practices around Songkhla Lake. ucc-water FreshCo and rifapentine.
Stage and grade of prostate cancer. However, such studies have mostly considered mean instead of median PSA values, and the apparent differences may be due to single high values skewing the means. The aim of this study was to analyse the differences between race groups with regard to serum PSA at presentation. Methods: We analyzed the data of 290 White men of European ancestry and 71 indigenous Black African men diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the prostate. Statistical analysis was performed with GraphPad InStat software, using the unpaired Student's t-test assuming Gaussian distribution of data ; and the Mann-Whitney test assuming non-parametric data distribution ; . Results: The Table shows the serum PSA ng ml ; at presentation and two-tailed pvalues for comparisons between the White and Black groups in representative grade and stage categories SD standard deviation ; . | Collaborate with Inhale to develop three products using Inhale's pulmonary delivery Inhance ; and super critical fluid SEDS ; technologies. Our alliance also gives us access to Inhale's licensing model, giving Inhale the ability to license our significant PEG patent portfolio on our behalf. Thus, Inhale can now offer a full package of PEG solutions to its drug delivery customers and we will receive royalties or a profit share for those products that utilize our PEG patents. This arrangement allows Enzon to realize revenue on portions of our PEG patent estate that we are not focusing on internally, with virtually no distraction or limitation placed on our efforts to continue developing products for our own account or with co-commercialization partners. Yet another exciting aspect of this alliance is to jointly explore the development of an inhaled SCA. We believe that the combination of our exciting SCA technology with Inhale's leading technology position in the and rifaximin.

Specific concentration-response curves for adrenaline are probably impossible to obtain because of reflex vasoconstriction subsequent to hormone-mediated vasodilation. Indeed, in most cases, we observed partial reversal of the adrenalinemediated fall in gill resistance within minutes after adding a given concentration of the catecholamine to the perfusate unpublished observations ; . We added 10~7 mol I"1 adrenaline to the perfusate in subsequent experiments because it was the lowest concentration that usually elicited spontaneous ventilation by the head. The transepithelial electrical potential TEP ; measured across the pup head was 6-3 mV more positive than the -- 4-4 mV measured in the intact pup Evans et al. 1982 ; . Only a very few measurements of TEP across perfused heads have been published. Claiborne & Evans 1984 ; found that the TEP across the head of the marine teleost M. octodecimspinosus was equivalent to that of the intact fish + 7-7 mV vs + 7-2 mV ; , but Perry & Wood 1985 ; found that the TEP across the perfused trout head was -- l-3mV when perfused with irrigate containing l-29mequivl~ 1 Ca 2 + and Kerstetter et al. 1970 ; measured + 6mV across the and rimantadine.
